If you find the number of email notifications of forum posts that you are receiving from Moodle is overwhelming and you're simply not reading them, in many cases you can turn these off.
To do this, click on the forum in question and in the 'administration' block on the left of the screen, simply click 'Unsubscribe from this forum'. You can still go into the forum and read the posts at your leisure, you just won't receive emails when someone posts.
From time to time you may receive an important notice via Moodle about your course or a message from your tutor, so it's important that you get Moodle working for you and don't find yourself in a situation where you're deleting unread messages.
